"We're Back!"

Hi folks,

Scott and I have returned from the great Midwest and RAGBRAI. We logged 500 miles on our bikes including a century (100 miles) day Dave and Scott at one of many towns(yes, that one just about killed me). The other days were all over 60 miles.  Considering the most we ever trained was 35 miles in one day, I think we did great!  I assure you that Iowa is not flat; one of my favorite signs was, "This is not the hill" followed by a huge hill and a sign reading, "This is it".

One of my finest memories was flying into the last town, Muscatine, in a 24-member pace line (single file) to the cheers of many along the route, then dipping my front tire in the Mississippi (the tradition at the end of the ride).

It was a fantastic trip, meeting many wonderful people including the Pedaling for Dave - many miles to goParkinson's team. Scott won everybody's respect for his cycling abilities ("young hammerhead"). We ate a lot of good Iowa food, had good weather all week, and had no flat tires!  (However, the beesting to the eyelid was a little uncomfortable!)

Pedalingforparkinsons.org raised over $10,000 for various research endeavors. Several people who met us have asked already to join the team for next year. Our leader, Jay Alberts of the Cleveland Clinic, did an unbelievable job organizing the group.

So a big thank-you for all who supported us in spirit and with $. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I'm sure I'll recover by Christmas.
